REPERCUSSIONS TO THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THE ELDERLY AND THE NURSING STRATEGIES IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC OF COVID-19

The objective of this study was to analyze the repercussions on the mental health of the elderly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the nursing strategies used in this pandemic period. The integrative review method was used in a systematic, orderly and comprehensive manner, being combined the descriptors (DeCS): Elderly, Mental Health and Nursing Care, within the subgroups of PICo spritgia, in which 15 scientific articles made available in full, through a time frame from 2019 to 2021 researched and selected in the Virtual Health Library (VHL). To operationalize the search, the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Oline (MEDLINE), National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Google Scholar and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases were used. The results were organized into two tables and a table and categorized, revealing that the elderly developed anxiety and panic disorders, depression, stress, insomnia, anger, destructive thoughts and suicidal behavior in addition to other psychic manifestations. It is concluded that nursing contributed to the care regarding several aspects not only physical but also social and psychological, promoting rehabilitation in more complex cases, maintaining direct and constant contact with the elderly patient, and guiding them regarding medications and nursing care to them and their families, in short, assisting the patient in the most different situations of social isolation.
