Abstract

This is a review that aims to present the main characteristics of the 9th edition of the book The Fundamentals of Physics - Volume 1, popularly known as “Ramalho”, by the authors Francisco Ramalho Júnior, Nicolau Gilberto Ferraro and Paulo Antônio de Toledo Soares. The Fundamentals of Physics is a famous textbook with remarkable characteristics, such as its direct text and a large number of examples and exercises. The book is used by students who wish to learn the content on their own, but the current edition shows that it is possible that the book will be used in the classroom as a textbook. With its first publication in 1940, the 9th edition sought to reinvent itself and adapt to the current educational demands for meaningful teaching. The Fundamentals of Physics provides a freedom for the teacher to use the book when planning his class, while fulfilling the objectives of a textbook.
