Abstract

Parkinson's disease is a chronic and progressive neurodegenerative disease that usually affects elderly people, however, young people are also not exempt from this disease, and may present signs and symptoms in their youth. Discovered by James Parkinson in 1817, it causes loss of neurons in the central nervous system in a region known as the substantia nigra. The present study is an integrative review with the objective of performing a literature review on the main pathological factor associated with the development of Parkinson's Disease in young adults. The study suggests that understanding aspects of the pathophysiology of PD offers conditions to improve the quality of care, aiming not only to treat symptoms, but also to maintain the patient's quality of life.
