PARTERNAL PARTICIPATION IN PRENATAL CARE: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

It is important to highlight the difficulties faced by pregnant women and health professionals in the insertion of the father in prenatal care. The study aimed to analyze the father's participation in prenatal care; it is an integrative review. The research was developed from the elaboration of the guiding question: "What is the importance of paternal participation in prenatal care?". Data collection occurred in July 2022 and the following databases were used in the selection of articles: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE∕PUBMED). The following Health Science Descriptors (DeCS) were used in the search for articles in the respective databases: "Father", "Prenatal care" and "Fatherhood". The Boolean operators "OR" and "AND" were used to cross-reference the terms. After a thorough reading, a total of 16 articles were selected. There are difficulties faced by pregnant women and health professionals in the insertion of the father during prenatal care and childbirth. The nurse plays a key role in this scenario, as they must guide and encourage pregnant women about the importance of the companion's presence in prenatal care, without preventing him from participating, but listening to the couple's expectations about fatherhood/motherhood.
