Objective: to identify in the production of knowledge the effects of acupuncture and electroacupuncture on diabetic neuropathy and the acupoints adopted by the researchers. Method: an integrative review study carried out at PubMed; SciELO; Scopus; PEDro and Web of Science, by the PICOT guiding criteria; through DECs and MeSH: acupuncture, electroacupuncture, neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, diabetes, in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The inclusion criteria were: original articles made available in full, in the selected databases, which presented adherence to the theme in Portuguese, Spanish and English, published between the years 2017 and 2022, in order to identify evidence of the theme in question published in the last 05 (five) years. Results: the sample included 15 international articles with different methodological approaches and investigative contexts, published between 2017 and 2022. Conclusion: acupuncture and electroacupuncture have positive effects on diabetic neuropathy, acting by promoting analgesia, anti-inflammatory effect, improvement in the neural and nervous response, providing progress in the motor response, as well as there are indications that there is an improvement in the circulatory condition, since there is a promotion of microcirculation in the place where the stimulus is applied or directed. It is concluded in this way that the symptomatological improvements are due to the syndromic diagnosis, which will lead the acupuncturist to the appropriate choice of acupoints.
