Abstract

The permanence of deleterious habits such as the use of a bottle and a pacifier can cause disorders in nutrition, phonation and breathing, in addition to the possibility of creating the habit of mouth breathing, with impacts on the child's health, school performance, production of language and social interaction. Considering the need to understand how deleterious oral habits impact the integral health of children, this scoping review aimed to map publications on deleterious oral habits and their implications in the population aged 0 to 6 years. The study was based on the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute, and the recommendations of the PRISMA-ScR checklist were followed to prepare the review synthesis. The results show a relationship between early weaning and the advent of deleterious oral habits, changes in the speech-language pathology, dental aspects of chewing and swallowing, with interference in the cognitive, emotional and behavioral aspects of these children.
