THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS’ WORK IN MILITARY POLICE ACTIVITY

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the importance of the work of internal affairs in military police activity. The internal affairs office is responsible for supervising the actions of the police and ensuring that they comply with their obligations in an ethical and legal manner. To achieve this objective, three specific objectives were established: to identify the main functions of internal affairs in military police activity, to verify the relationship between the action of internal affairs and the reduction of police violence and to analyze the effectiveness of internal affairs actions in promoting changes in the institutional culture of the military police. Military police activity is one of the most relevant functions of the State, with the primary objective of protecting society and ensuring public order. However, in order for these objectives to be achieved in an appropriate manner, it is essential that there is internal control of police activity in order to avoid misconduct and ensure that police actions are always in compliance with the law. In this sense, internal affairs plays a fundamental role. The internal affairs office is responsible for ensuring the legality and morality of the acts committed by the military police, through the supervision and investigation of the activities carried out by public agents, as well as the application of appropriate disciplinary sanctions. In addition, the actions of the internal affairs can contribute to the reduction of police violence, since the supervision and accountability.
