Abstract

Sepsis is a clinical syndrome resulting from an uncontrolled inflammatory response of the body to an infection.  This study aimed to characterize the cases of hospitalizations for sepsis in children under one year of age in the state of Acre between 2018 and 2022. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective, exploratory, quantitative study, with secondary data collection, extracted from the website of the Department of Informatics of SUS - DATASUS. The findings showed that 161 cases of sepsis in children under 1 year of age hospitalized in the state of Acre, of which the majority occurred in Rio Branco 96 (59.6%), followed by Santa Rosa do Purus 10 (6.0%). The number of hospitalizations per year of occurrence showed variations in inconstancy, and an important decline in the number of cases was observed in 2020, with a sudden increase in 2021 and a decline again in 2022. There was a higher occurrence in males 88 (54.7%). As for race it was not possible to identify this information due to the fact that most data were not available in the system. In the face of the character of care, the majority occurred as an emergency 92 (57.1%) and regarding the outcome, most cases progress to discharge due to cure 140 (87%). It is concluded that the hospitalization of children under one year is a problem in evidence in the state of Acre and it is necessary to implement effective measures for prevention.
