Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative conditions worldwide and is characterized by progressive degeneration of nerve cells, especially in the region of the brain known as the substantia nigra. This progressive, chronically debilitating disorder transcends its clinical manifestations, permeating the physical, cognitive and emotional spheres of those who experience its daily challenges. Methodology: This is a bibliographical review, using articles present in the following databases: PubMed, Scopus and SciELO. Original articles and systematic reviews in English and Portuguese published between 2020 and 2024 were included, which addressed Molecular Mechanisms of Neuronal Degeneration in PD. After analysis, 19 articles were selected to prepare this bibliographic review. Results and Discussion: From this review, the main molecular mechanisms associated with PD were presented: Alpha-synuclein Accumulation, Mitochondrial Dysfunctions, Oxidative Stress and Neuroimmune Inflammation. Conclusion: It is evident that PD is a complex condition, characterized by an intricate interconnection between molecular mechanisms and clinical manifestations.
