The main objective of this Course Completion Work, using the deductive method, aims to analyze Environmental Education as a Necessary Element for the Promotion of Sustainable Development. The choice of the theme was given to the relevance of this issue in Environmental Law, because the preservation of the ecosystem has been increasingly discussed by society and becoming the target of judicial protection. The particularities of the environment will be addressed, and basic stems from the theme. The work was structured in three parts, the first of which will present a historical approach on the relationship between man and the environment. The second will deal with the basics of Environmental Law, presenting the concepts of environment and environmental law, the sources and principles of environmental law. The third part will deal with the issue of environmental education, presenting a brief history of environmental education, the National Environmental Education Policy, the treatment of environmental education today by the public authorities, and the relationship between environmental education, the legal system and economic development. This set will show that human relations with the environment need a new model of development, based on sustainability. In the search for the realization of this ideal model of development, a great ally emerged: environmental education. Environmental education is a valuable tool in this search, because it is through it that conscious citizens will be formed, capable of ensuring the preservation of the ecosystem for present and future generations.
