STATE OF THE ART OF ADENOMATOID ODONTOGENIC TUMOR WITH EMPHASIS ON ITS CLINICAL, PATHOLOGICAL AND IMAGING FINDINGS

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is a benign, asymptomatic and uncommon neoplasm that affects the jaw, with non-aggressive behavior and slow growth. The objective of this work is to carry out a narrative review of the literature about adenomatoid odontogenic tumor. A bibliographical search was carried out in the Pubmed, Scielo and Google Scholar databases from 2012 to 2023 using the following keywords: “Clinical and radiographic characteristics”, “Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor” and “Benign neoplasm”. Clinically, the lesion is reported as an increase in volume of the jaws, with slow and progressive growth. It especially affects the anterior region of the maxilla, in female patients, in the second decade of life. Its main characteristics are bulging of the cortical bone with expansion of the vestibule, mobility and/or tooth displacement, tooth resorption, with a delay or lack of eruption of the permanent tooth, with the treatment of choice being surgical enucleation and curettage, presenting a favorable prognosis, usually without recurrence.
