Abstract

This is a bibliographical research, based on the theoretical assumptions of several authors and sources on the topic addressed in this study. In these terms, the main objective of the study was to present information related to the use of cover crops as an alternative for sustainable management, in order to generate information to assist future research, as well as to guide producers regarding the implementation of this practice aimed at environmental conservation. The study is justified due to the increase in the world population requiring a large amount of food produced, which becomes a challenge, to produce in quantity and with quality considering sustainability. Faced with this problem, the cover crops, when properly used, constitute a strategy to improve the physical, chemical and biological attributes of the soil, adding an increase in productivity and sustainability to the agricultural system. As a result, it is clear that the use of cover crops is a promising alternative to implement the sustainable production desired by modern agriculture.
