Abstract

Anti-aging medicine focuses on improving quality of life during aging, considering the influence of environmental factors such as pollution, tobacco, poor diet, stress, and irregular sleep. Anti-aging cosmetic products, especially those containing retinoic acid, have gained attention for their skin rejuvenation properties. Therefore, this article reviews the literature on the efficacy of retinoic acid in treating fine lines and wrinkles, analyzing its mechanisms of action, application protocols, efficacy, safety, and associated side effects. The methodology included a review of articles published between 2019 and 2024 in the PubMed database and the Virtual Health Library. The results indicate that retinoids, particularly retinoic acid, are effective in improving the visible manifestations of skin aging, promoting cell turnover and collagen formation. However, side effects such as irritation and peeling are common, making management strategies essential. Therefore, it is concluded that retinoic acid is a promising option for anti-aging treatment, requiring specific protocols to maximize its efficacy and minimize adverse effects.
