Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the coping modes of hemodialysis clients and their correlation with Roy's Adaptation Mode theory. This is an integrative literature review from 2017 to 2021, referring to articles published in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The selection was based on crossings of descriptors: chronic kidney failure, nursing theory, kidney dialysis, in the databases: BDENF, LILACS, MEDLINE and SciELO. In the final sample, eight articles were selected, six national and two international. From the survey of studies, it was possible to identify the most common adaptive problems: change in social role; sexual problems; low self esteem; edema; activity intolerance; hypothermia; restricted mobility; continuous use of medications and dietary and water restriction. According to the analysis of the articles, it is possible to establish a systematized and holistic nursing care from the nursing process proposed in Roy's Adaptation Model, which is of fundamental importance for comprehensive care, not just clinical care, aimed at the population in a regular hemodialysis program.
