MORFOLOGÍA DEL SENO ESFENOIDAL EN LABIO Y PALADAR HENDIDO Y SUS IMPLICACIONES CLÍNICAS: UNA REVISIÓN DE LA LITERATURA

Resumen

Se investigó qué tipo de neumatización (morfología) del seno esfenoidal es más común en pacientes con labio leporino y paladar hendido. Revisión de la literatura: La estructura metodológica utilizada para realizar este estudio sigue la propuesta del Instituto Joanna Briggs. Se realizaron búsquedas en las bases de datos National Library of Medicine (PubMed/MEDLINE), Scopus, Embase, Web of Science y Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). De los 129 estudios iniciales, 3 se incluyeron en el análisis final, y 3 fueron estudios retrospectivos. La morfología principal del seno esfenoidal que se encuentra con mayor frecuencia en pacientes con labio leporino y paladar hendido es el tipo selar. Las extensiones más comunes del seno esfenoidal fueron la neumatización de tipo anterior, la neumatización de tipo corporal y la neumatización de la apófisis pterigoidea. Discusión: El seno esfenoidal es el seno paranasal que presenta más variaciones en su morfología. Su morfología está directamente relacionada con importantes complicaciones quirúrgicas, como las cirugías transesfenoidales y ortognáticas.  Los pacientes con labio leporino y paladar hendido se someten a cirugía ortognática para corregir las discrepancias óseas en los maxilares.
