GASTROEKINEMIA AND THE SCOPINARO OPERATION: AN ANALYSIS OF EFFICACY, SAFETY AND IMPLICATIONS IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY

Abstract

Obesity is a global epidemic that requires effective therapeutic approaches. The Scopinaro operation, a complex and invasive surgical procedure, has been studied as an alternative for the treatment of morbid obesity and metabolic syndrome. This literature review article analyzes gastroequimemia, one of the components of the Scopinaro operation, evaluating its efficacy, safety and implications in the treatment of obesity. Gastroequimemia is a bariatric procedure that combines sleeve gastrectomy with ileoileostomy to alter nutrient absorption. The present study aims to analyze whether gastroequimemia results in significant weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity and reduced comorbidities associated with obesity. Also addressing its risks, such as nutrient malabsorption, nutritional deficiencies and dumping syndrome. The Scopinaro operation, which includes gastroequimemia, is considered an effective alternative for patients with morbid obesity refractory to other interventions. However, its application is limited due to the complexity of the procedure, the need for intensive nutritional monitoring and potential long-term complications. Furthermore, gastroequimemia and the Scopinaro operation can have significant implications for patients' lifestyle and quality of life, requiring careful assessment of individual benefits and risks.
