Abstract

This article reports a filmic analysis of elements exposed in the film “Heart of Glass” (1976) by Werner Herzog, based on the theories presented by Walter Benjamin, in his book “The Art of Telling Stories” (2018). The objective was to pair elements, both from the film and from the theory, and confronts them to find possibilities of approximations. The material used was the video sharing site, YouTube ®, where the film in question is posted. The methodology of analysis brings an observation of the plot, characters, scenes and lines, with an approach to the studies of Benjamin (2018), who criticizes the loss of the faculty of transmitting experiences from the narratives. This change happens with the arrival of modernity, which brought with it the narrative of the novel, bathed in information, preventing the act of narrating the experience. With this, it was verified if the film really brings influences on these changes proposed by Benjamin (2018), going through all the topics of the theories presented. Finally, as a result, it was verified that there are important points of the film that stand out with great relevance with the theories presented by Benjamin (2018), allowing the creation of the analysis and this article. The film demonstrated significant points with possible compatibilities, where there is a foreshadowing of a change in society within the plot of Werner Herzog, similar to the process of modifying the narrative that Benjamin (2018) criticizes.
