The present study aims to analyze the scientific evidence related to the use of omega-3 in the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Methodology - To carry out this study, a descriptive and qualitative bibliographic research was conducted. Original articles published in journals indexed in databases in Portuguese and English related to omega-3 supplementation in the treatment of AD were selected. Narrative, descriptive, integrative and systematic review articles with meta-analysis, as well as those not aligned with the theme, were excluded. Results - Critical analysis of the selected studies demonstrated that omega-3 supplementation may be beneficial in reducing the risk of developing AD and slowing the progression of symptoms in patients already diagnosed. The neuroprotective action of DHA, in particular, is associated with the maintenance of brain lipid metabolism, the regulation of neurotransmission processes, and the reduction of oxidative stress. Conclusion - Based on the scientific evidence analyzed, the use of omega-3, especially DHA, emerges as a possible promising therapeutic approach in the management of Alzheimer's Disease. Omega-3 supplementation may play a significant role in the prevention and treatment of this neurodegenerative condition. However, further clinical studies are needed to consolidate these findings and establish clear guidelines for their use in clinical practice.
