INSTITUTIONAL PROCEDURES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT FOR MILITARY POLICE OFFICERS INVOLVED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

Abstract

The objective of this article is to highlight the absence of institutional psychological support protocols for military police officers involved in accidents with police vehicles. Through contextual reflection and practical analyzes of real cases that occurred in the Military Police of the State of Paraná, the study proposes a critical reflection on possible mental disorders and/or traumas to state military personnel, resulting from a vehicle accident and suggests the adoption of measures which integrate psychological care linked to a standard care protocol, with the aim of mitigating the emotional impacts of these events on police officers and with the aim of preventing new accidents involving police vehicles. It is concluded that the implementation of a psychological care protocol is essential to guarantee the mental health of police officers and the effective functioning of institutions, as well as to mitigate accidents.

Author Biographies

  • Luiz Carlos Dorecki Junior
    Military Police Officer of the State of Paraná since 2012, being promoted to Corporal by merit in 2024. In 2024, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Administration from Centro Universitario Dom Bosco in Curitiba During his career at the Military Police of Paraná, he completed the following courses: Tactical Patrol Vehicle Driving Training Course Training Course in High-Risk Patrol Conduct Training Course for Overt Rounds of a Special Nature After graduating, he worked as a coordination assistant in several editions of the above courses. In 2022, he was an assistant at the RONE Battalion's Soldier Training Course. He was an assistant in the Police Approach Techniques discipline in several training and specialized courses.
  • Jhonatan de Souza Campos

    Jhonatan de Souza Campos holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR), graduating in 2014. He has several specializations in the legal and public security fields, including:

    • Postgraduate in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure with an emphasis on police activity from the Tuiuti University of Paraná;
    • Postgraduate in Criminal Analysis from São Braz Faculty of Education;
    • Postgraduate in Forensic Investigation from Unina Faculty;
    • Postgraduate in Police Intelligence from Unyleya Faculty.

    During his studies, Jhonatan worked as a conciliator in the Criminal Small Claims Court and completed an internship with the Civil Police, providing him with valuable practical experience in the criminal justice system.

    He joined the Military Police of the State of Paraná in 2010 and was promoted to Corporal by merit in 2021. Throughout his career, he has served in various units, working in tactical groups, intelligence, and correctional areas. He currently serves in RONE, engaging in tactical patrols across the State of Paraná.

    Jhonatan has been dedicated to continuous improvement in the fields of intelligence, public security, criminal analysis, and Military Judicial Police.
