Abstract

This study proposes an analysis of the effectiveness of malnutrition protocols that include psychological indicators as an essential part of their evaluation. A narrative, qualitative literature review was conducted, based on searches in reliable scientific databases (Google Scholar, Periódico Capes, and SciELO) from 2000 to 2025. The selection included complete articles in Portuguese and English, as well as physical works related to the topic. The results emphasize that merely measuring weight gain or reduced hospitalization rates does not capture all dimensions of the problem, since interventions adding psychosocial stimuli – such as playful sessions, family follow-up, and depression screening – demonstrate improvements in motor development, emotional well-being, and treatment adherence. Critical analysis reveals the limitations of studies relying solely on anthropometric markers, as research involving children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic diseases indicates a significant impact on quality of life and mental resilience when psychosocial support is provided. It is concluded that the evaluation of malnutrition protocols must incorporate emotional and cognitive aspects for a broader understanding of outcomes, and that the adoption of multidisciplinary teams and systematic monitoring of these indicators is recommended. This approach emerges as an alternative to mitigate methodological constraints and promote more effective and humanized interventions.
