Abstract

The scientific article on the National Policy for Education in Socioemotional Development and Citizenship (PNEDSC) aims to promote holistic education that develops socioemotional skills and citizenship values in students. The focus is on strengthening socioemotional development and building active citizenship. The central issue identified is the lack of a national policy that systematically integrates these competencies into the school curriculum. Many institutions address these areas in a fragmented and disorganised manner, undermining the effectiveness of teaching practices aimed at forming critical, empathetic, and responsible citizens. The objective of the research is to promote socioemotional competencies in primary education, encourage civic pedagogical practices, and strengthen a culture of peace, respect for diversity, and equity in schools. The study arises from the growing demand for educational policies that integrate socioemotional competencies into the curriculum, recognising the positive impact of this approach on the overall development of students. To make the research possible, a qualitative method was used, with documentary analysis of the PNEDSC guidelines and interviews with educators and managers to assess the implementation of the policy in schools. The PNEDSC presents significant potential to transform education, but greater teacher training and ongoing monitoring are needed to ensure its effectiveness.
