SOCIAL REPRESENTATION IN HEALTH

Abstract

This research is part of the master's dissertation in psychology entitled Approaching Knowledge in an Indigenous Community in the Sertão Alagoas, which had as its main objective to study the social representations of mental health care by indigenous people of the Jeripanko ethnicity in the light of Lefèvre's Discourse of the Collective Subject technique. Its objective is to describe the key features of Serge Moscovici's Theory of Social Representations, analyze its functions and applicability in the health field. To this end, a non-systematic review of scientific literature available in the following databases was conducted: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). The results indicated that the SRT has proven to be an important foundation for the development of research in various areas of knowledge, with important emphasis on health, in view of the importance of the psychosociological view of the health-disease process and the need for adequacy of care strategies.
