Abstract

The objective of this study is to know some aspects about contemporary aging from the perceptions of students of a professional course in caregivers for the elderly. It is a descriptive and exploratory research with a qualitative approach. The research participants were six students from a professional training course for elderly caregivers in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The research instrument was the application of a questionnaire and the data analysis followed similarities with the Content Analysis. The results ask about aging as a vital physical and mental process of the population, making the participants indicate care as necessary for the professional management of this individual. It was also observed the role of the community in the construction of a unique and non-transferable aging, being the same space for the occurrence of negligence due to the lack of supervision for the fulfillment of the rights of the elderly. Thus, this research reaffirms the roles of the elderly, society and the State in building healthy aging that preserves human dignity.
