Prostate cancer is considered a cancer of old age, occurring mostly over the age of 65, being in the male population the most frequent form of cancer, with a high incidence and mortality rate. Because it is considered a public health problem, medicinal plants, which have always been present in the auxiliary therapy of certain diseases, can serve as a tool in the treatment of this neoplasm. Therefore, this study aims to study the properties of medicinal plants as a therapeutic alternative in the treatment of prostate cancer. A literature review was carried out, studying the functionality of plant bioactives as a way to help in resolution and improvement of clinical picture in prostate cancer, searching in virtual libraries, such as PubMed, with the words "Medicinal plants" OR "Prostate Cancer" OR “Prostate AND treatment”. It was seen that the studied substances showed a relevant protection against metastasis and tumor growth, leading to a good therapeutic action. Curcumin has been observed to inhibit the action of NFkB and AR stimulation, in addition to regulating Bax and Bcl-2, and also the activity of PSA and TGF-B. In addition, it was seen that garlic components also had beneficial activity, mainly Dialyl Trisulfide, and equally important, Epigallocatechin-3-gallate, present in Green Tea, which also showed beneficial outcomes for the control of tumor growth. With this, phytotherapy is seen as a relevant form in the alternative treatment, or in combination, of this tumor, providing a reduction in morbidity and mortality and improvement in clinical prognosis.
