This article discusses self-directed learning, seeking to associate the practical part, addressing its advantages, as well as its disadvantages and the connection with the teaching-learning process in a more dynamic and enriching way, which in turn, is an evaluative educational process that seeks to identify the skills and difficulties of each student in their specificity. Therefore, the instructional design is fundamental for learning in the virtual environment, it is he who ensures that the necessary information reaches the student in a clear, objective and easy to understand way, according to the needs of the students, promoting their teaching learning process, bringing innovations. In this way, one should consider the organization, evaluation and analysis. Thus, it is questioned: how self-directed learning can contribute along with instructional design to the educational development of students with the use of digital technologies. As a methodology for the construction of the article, bibliographic research, internet, magazines, articles and books of great relevance for the construction of the study were used.
