The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expanding rapidly in many fields of dentistry, including pediatric dentistry. More extensive research is required to fully validate its specific benefits and applications in children's dental care. This study conducted a narrative review of the literature on the role of AI in optimizing pediatric dental care. Databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar were consulted to collect the relevant articles regardless of language. The review of 31 articles found that various AI techniques such as neural networks, deep learning, and machine learning are applied in pediatric dentistry, showing initially promising but preliminary results in early caries detection, treatment planning, and patient education. However, larger-scale studies are needed to determine if these diagnostic advances actually translate into better long-term outcomes. In addition, the review highlighted several challenges linked to the use of AI, including bias in data and models, privacy, ethics, and unequal access. Appropriate standards, regulations, and training programs are required to implement AI safely and equitably. Therefore, the integration of AI in pediatric dentistry should be carefully evaluated, considering its clinical, economic and social implications. This will ensure that their strengths are used without compromising other children's oral health goals.
