A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND ITS EFFECTS ON IMPROVING EDUCATION QUALITY

Students may experience difficulties during their academic career. In contrast, social media is increasingly embedded in everyday life, for various purposes, including entertainment and education. The purpose of this work is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to investigate the uses of social media in education, answering three Research Questions (RQs) RQ1: how do social media work to improve the quality of teaching? RQ2: How do social media affect undergraduate student motivation? RQ3: What types of social media are used for teaching? Following Kitchenham's (2014) methodology, RSL returned 1,651 and 34 studies were selected. We identified that social media can be used to improve learning, the professional behavior of educators, educational assessment, problem solving and programming assistance (QP1), also acting on the development of student motivation and engagement (QP2) . Facebook was used in most of the work (PQ3).
