The African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights recognizes the positive relationship between a healthy environment and human rights. To provide a better understanding of the legal framework of the relationship between environmental protection and human rights in Africa, it was decided to perform a systematic review of the literature during the second half of January 2024. The theoretical research was performed in the following databases: Web of Science and Scopus. As inclusion criteria, we chose original studies and journals published in English and Portuguese that were available in PDF. As a result, 15 studies reported in 14 peer-reviewed articles and journals were included. The studies were run in 3 African countries, such Angola, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. In conclusion, it is crucial to highlight the analysis of the legal framework of the relationship between environmental protection and human rights in Africa may have theoretical and practical implications for a new approach to sustainable African development.
