DEFICIENCIA DE VITAMINA B12 POR EL USO DE METFORMINA EN PACIENTES CON DIABETES MELLITUS TIPO 2

El uso prolongado de metformina, un tratamiento común para la DM2, se asocia con deficiencia de vitamina B12, requiriendo un control regular de los niveles de vitamina en los pacientes tratados. Material y Métodos: Se trata de una revisión integradora de la literatura sobre la deficiencia de vitamina B12 inducida por metformina en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2, utilizando artículos de PubMed de 2019 a 2024, con estrictos criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Resultado y discusión: La metformina se asocia con la deficiencia de vitamina B12, lo que afecta la absorción intestinal de la vitamina, lo que puede provocar complicaciones como neuropatía y anemia. Estudios demuestran que el uso prolongado y en dosis altas aumenta el riesgo de deficiencia de B12 en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2. Conclusión: El uso de metformina está relacionado con la deficiencia de vitamina B12, afectando la absorción de la vitamina y provocando complicaciones como neuropatía y anemia. pacientes con diabetes tipo 2, especialmente en dosis altas y tratamientos prolongados.
