Abstract

Objective: to identify the educational tools available on the influence of social media on the body image of adolescents in the literature. Method: integrative review study conducted at PubMed, ScienceDirect, Lilacs and Medline via VHL, according to pico guiding criteria; through DECs and MeSH: social media, social networking, body image, adolescents and education, in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The inclusion criteria were: complete articles made available in full, in the selected databases, which presented adherence to the theme in Portuguese, Spanish and English, published between 2013 and 2022, with a view to identifying the evidence of the theme in question published in the last 10 (ten) years. Results: the sample included 19 articles, 16 international and 3 national with various methodological approaches and investigative contexts. The data were organized according to the categories: influence of social media on body image (15 articles) and educational interventions on this theme (4 articles). Conclusion: social media has contributed to increased body pressure. In addition, the internalization of the media is related to body image dissatisfaction among female adolescents. It is concluded that there is a great demand for interventions on body image and social media influence for adolescents. Consequently, there is a need for educational actions that address the use of social media and body image concerns among adolescent girls to prevent and minimize potential health damage.
