Abstract

The prevalence of depression symptoms among college students has been a growing mental health concern, highlighting the need for effective prevention and treatment strategies. This literature review article analyzes the influence of physical activity on reducing symptoms of depression in university students. College students often face high levels of academic stress and social pressure, making them particularly susceptible to mental health problems, including depression. Therefore, promoting physical activity as an integral part of college students' lives can be an effective strategy to prevent and alleviate symptoms of depression. However, it is important to consider that adherence to physical activity can be challenging for some students, due to barriers such as lack of time, motivation and access to sports facilities. Therefore, intervention strategies must be adapted to individual and contextual needs. Thus, the practice of physical activity shows promise in reducing symptoms of depression in university students, offering significant physical and psychological benefits. Promoting active lifestyles within universities and creating environments conducive to exercise can help improve students' mental health.
