Abstract

The objective of this study is to verify the survival factors of family businesses, as well as to analyze their lifespan, understand the main challenges of strategic planning during business succession and receiving command by successors and aims to elucidate which organizations have been more successful in this process. Therefore, the national scenario will be analyzed regarding the life span of companies and also the main generational conflicts that are erupted on the occasion of business and family planning for succession purposes. To carry out this study, we used data from governmental and non-governmental agencies, knowing that the theoretical support material had many contributions from national and international perspectives, which nuanced and mixed the accumulated knowledge about this specific area of knowledge. The data were arranged by means of scales and demonstrative figures to facilitate the understanding of the helpful teacher/reader. The main results perceived include the need to talk more about the subject at Sunday tables, so that it is no longer treated as a taboo subject and is transported towards normality and systematic preparation for an unwanted, but inevitable, absence.
