Abstract

The present text is entitled the perceptions of remote teaching and learning process in the time of COVID-19 Pandemic in the Faculty of Education at Eduardo Mondlane University, and it is a result of a research carried out involving teachers and undergraduate students (year one, two, three and four) taking into account the transition from the presential to the remote learning (online) in accordance with the emergency and public calamity state decree issued by the government. The objective of the research is to gauge the Faculty of Education perception of the challenges of remote teaching and learning in the teachers and students. The methodology used to conduct this research was the comparison of the data gathered through two questionaires (one for the teachers and another for the students) including remote teaching related literature. The core question of the research is: what difficulties and challenges teachers and students faced in the abrupt transition from the presential to the remote teaching in the time of Pandemic COVID19? The teachers and students answers have revealed the existence of difficulties and challenges amongst them in different perspectives: knowledge, domain and skills in the use of online tools; the non-existence of training course on using remote learning platforms; the teachersʼ and the studentsʼ incapacity to cover the costs of internet; lack of apropriate devices for online lessons particularly in the students; communication problems with some students.
